Chat Window:

If you double-click anywhere in the main screen, this will toggle the chat window on or off.

Also, you may notice that new text in the chat window is not appearing. Most likely the buffer has become filled with text, and needs to be cleared. This can be done by selecting 'Game' from the Menu Bar, then 'Clear Buffer'.
