JackerYour first game ever of Apprentice?
Ok, easy, just follow these three steps and you'll be on your way!
1. Make a Magic: The Gathering deck using the Deck Editor in Apprentice. It is suggested that you make decks that conform to the various DCI sanctioned tournament types, since that's what most players use. These can be found in the References menu in Apprentice.
2. Find another player to connect to. The easiest way to do this is to go into the #Apprentice IRC channel on Newnet and ask for a game of the particular tournament style for which you have designed a deck (Standard/Type II, for example). One player will be Host, the other the Caller. Decide this with your opponent before continuing. The Host must give the other player his/her IP address. The IP address can be obtained from the "Connect Via the Internet" dialog.
3. Start a New Game. To do so in Apprentice, choose File and New Game (or clicking on the "wand" shortcut button). Load the deck you want to use. In the Game Type window, select "Connect Via the Internet". Set your Starting Life to 20 and Starting Cards in Hand to zero. Click "Ok". A connect via the Internet Box should pop up. If you are the Host, select Waiting for Call, and hit Ok. Your computer will wait until the Caller connects. You can abort at any time by clicking Cancel. If you are the Caller, select Calling my Opponent At, click in the adjacent window box, and then type in the IP address of your opponent. Give your opponent enough time to be ready for your call, and then click "Ok". If you do not connect immediately, you probably did not wait long enough; try again.
You should be connected now, and ready to play. Use the textwindow at the bottom of the screen to communicate with youropponent. To type a message to your opponent for the firsttime click on the white box at the bottom of the screen and typeanything. Thank You for using Apprentice and enjoy!
